To the fathers who carried their families across oceans, who rebuilt from nothing, who showed up quietly and consistently — we see you. Happy Father's Day to all the Bố, Ba, and father figures in our community.

Happy Juneteenth. 🖤🌻 Today we honor the emancipation of Black Americans and the long, ongoing fight for freedom and justice that Juneteenth represents. As Vietnamese Americans, our story in this country is inseparable from that fight. The Civil Rights Movement led by Black Americans produced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 — which directly led to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, removing racial barriers in immigration policy that had long excluded Asian Americans. Bayard Rustin — a Black civil rights leader who helped organize the 1963 March on Washington — personally visited Vietnamese refugee camps in Thailand in 1978 and publicly fought for Southeast Asian refugees to be welcomed into the United States at a time when most Americans opposed it. Many of our families are here because of people like him. And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thích Nhất Hạnh shared a friendship rooted in peace, justice, and liberation — King nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. Our communities have shown up for each other across generations. Today we say thank you, and we recommit to continuing that tradition of solidarity. 🌸 Happy Mother’s Day 🌸 Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who sacrificed so much for us — their love, strength, guidance, and endless support shaped who we are today. Many of our mothers came to this country with very little, carrying hopes and dreams for a better future for their children. They worked hard, sacrificed quietly, and continued pushing forward through every challenge so the next generation could have more opportunities. One of the best ways we can honor them is not just through words, but through our actions. Make your mother proud. Work hard. Help others. Stand up for your community. Lead with kindness, integrity, and purpose. No matter how old we get, we will always be our mother’s child — and our success, character, and compassion are reflections of the sacrifices they made for us. 🖤 Black April – April 30 Today marks Black April — commemorating the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War 51 years ago. Millions of Vietnamese were forced to flee their homeland, becoming refugees and boat people in search of freedom. Many others were left behind, imprisoned in reeducation camps, separated from their families, and stripped of their futures. Today, our community still faces challenges — under-resourced, navigating uncertainty, and impacted by harsh immigration policies that continue to affect Vietnamese and other AAPI communities. Understanding Black April is foundational to the Vietnamese American identity. When we truly understand this history, we understand our community’s struggles, resilience, and why we continue to push forward — to drive change and demand real results. Too often, our stories are acknowledged — but not acted on. We must hold our elected officials to a higher standard — especially those with Vietnamese roots. It’s not enough to listen to what is said. We must look at what is done, and what results are actually delivered for our community. ✊ We remember. ✊ We honor. ✊ We act. Don’t give up.
