🖤 Black April – April 30 Today marks Black April — commemorating the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War 51 years ago. Millions of Vietnamese were forced to flee their homeland, becoming refugees and boat people in search of freedom. Many others were left behind, imprisoned in reeducation camps, separated from their families, and stripped of their futures. Today, our community still faces challenges — under-resourced, navigating uncertainty, and impacted by harsh immigration policies that continue to affect Vietnamese and other AAPI communities. Understanding Black April is foundational to the Vietnamese American identity. When we truly understand this history, we understand our community’s struggles, resilience, and why we continue to push forward — to drive change and demand real results. Too often, our stories are acknowledged — but not acted on. We must hold our elected officials to a higher standard — especially those with Vietnamese roots. It’s not enough to listen to what is said. We must look at what is done, and what results are actually delivered for our community. ✊ We remember. ✊ We honor. ✊ We act. Don’t give up.
