Arts, culture, and identity are integral components of the Vietnamese American experience, rooted in a rich heritage that dates back around 4900 to 4500 years ago. Vietnamese culture has undergone a series of transformations and adaptations, shaped by various influences over time. One of the most significant milestones in Vietnamese history occurred with the Fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975. In its aftermath, Vietnamese boat people, refugees, and immigrants dispersed across the globe, including to the United States, where they forged new lives and communities.

This diaspora led to the emergence of Vietnamese American culture, a unique blend that reflects both the traditions of the homeland and the experiences of adaptation and integration in a new environment. While rooted in Vietnamese heritage, Vietnamese American culture exhibits distinct characteristics, evident in the ways in which celebrations are conducted, language is spoken, arts are expressed, and sensitivities are addressed. As Vietnamese Americans, it is incumbent upon us to recognize, honor, and uphold these rich traditions for both our generation and those to come.
